DeHart Day

Curious about where your drinking water comes from? Interested in a behind-the-scenes tour of the DeHart Dam? Take a day to Consider the Source – the source of your drinking water. Please join Capital Region Water in Clarks Valley on Saturday, May 20, 2017 for a litter cleanup and drinking water tour.

Volunteers are needed to prevent litter from making its way into the DeHart Reservoir, the source of Harrisburg’s drinking water. The day will be begin with a safety briefing and orientation and wrap-up with lunch and facility tours. Volunteers will have the chance to learn more about how their water is collected in the DeHart Reservoir and makes the nearly 25 mile journey to Harrisburg.

Registration is required to participate to ensure your safety and security. Please let us know you’re joining us and we’ll plan appropriately for transportation, supplies and logistics. We also ask that you print and bring with you a copy of the Volunteer Agreement and Waiver of Liability. To participate, we must receive a signed copy. Plan to print this and bring it with you on Saturday, May 20. We also ask you to bring photo identification if joining us for a tour.

Date and Time:  Saturday, May 20, 2017 9:00am to 1:00pm

The litter cleanup will be from 9:30am to 11:00am with lunch and tours immediately following.

Transportation:  Don’t let transportation be a barrier to participating, catch a ride with Capital Region Water. We also encourage others to consider this option as a way to reduce the number of vehicles traveling to and parking at the DeHart Reservoir.

A bus will be leaving Capital Region Water’s Customer Service Center located at 100 Pine Drive promptly at 8:30am and leaving at 12:30pm for an estimated 1:00pm arrival back to the Customer Service Center.

What to wear: Be sure to wear sturdy footwear, long pants and long sleeved shirts for your protection. Dress in layers to be comfortable. Plan to wear provided safety apparel, including gloves and a vest.

What to bring: Please be sure to print, sign and bring with you a Volunteer Agreement and Waiver of Liability. If planning to join a facility tour, please bring photo identification for security verification. Cell phone reception is limited.

Lunch, water and t-shirts will be provided.
